Starting in 2016, the Office of the Maine Attorney General began purchasing kits of naloxone nasal spray to be distributed to law enforcement agencies throughout Maine to be used during emergency response calls. From 2020 – 2025, over 1,468 successful opioid overdose reversals were reported to the Maine Naloxone Distribution Initiative from Law Enforcement Partners. At present, dozens of law enforcement agencies across all 16 Maine Counties are participating in the program, including local police departments, county sheriff’s offices, county jails, game wardens, and state police.
