From the OPTIONS liaison assigned to your county

The Overdose Prevention Through Intensive Outreach, Naloxone, and Safety (OPTIONS) initiative is a coordinated effort of the Maine Office of Behavioral Health and other state agencies to improve the health of Mainers who use substances through harm reduction strategies in an effort to dramatically reduce the number of fatal and non-fatal drug overdoses which occur in the state.

For more information about OPTIONS and to find a liaison that can provide you with naloxone free of charge visit: https://knowyouroptions.me/about-options/

From your local pharmacy

In Maine you do not need a prescription to buy naloxone at a pharmacy. You can get the nasal spray without a doctor’s prescription at any Maine pharmacy. Simply ask the pharmacist.

Patients can also be prescribed naloxone by their healthcare provider. MaineCare patients who are prescribed opioids can ask to be prescribed naloxone. Insurance may cover all or part of the costs.
